“The recipe for perpetual ignorance is: be satisfied with your opinions and content with your knowledge.”Elbert Hubbard

Monks at Work: BloggingWay back when I was a wee lad studying artificial intelligence, one of the cases we read was on the time an expert verses relatively new doctor took to review a patient’s file. The expert would take hardly any time, scanning and pulling out the relative facts. The less experience doctor had to read through all the extraneous material. You might think this would make the novice better informed. The problem is the inexperienced doctor would have relatively few frameworks and would try to make everything fit into these predefined diagnosis. It was the experience doctor who could adjust to the facts and ask the relevant questions to make a correct diagnosis.

Podcasts are great, but they take as long as they take to listen to them. I view them as an opportunity to sit back, relax, and enjoy learning from the experts. Blogs are more of an active way of getting information. They allow you to quickly scan, find the information, and if the blog has links you can shoot off to other sites.

There is a site, that is not a blog, which I visit most everyday. It is a forum for security professionals. Some very good people are involved, including bloggers and podcasters. It is the Security Catalyst Community Forum. You will have to sign up to access the forums. Even more unusual, you will have to use your true name. It is a great resource.

Over on the right hand side of this page, under the header “Links” there is a section “RSS Feeds.” There I list the RSS feeds I currently subscribe to. Another listing on the right are a few shared postings I thought were particularly interesting.
