I found I wanted to direct a few people to my blog for information. Why? Well, the blog really serves two purposes. First, it is an organized note area for me. I figure out how to do something, I post. Also, when I have a bunch of links of interest to me, I post with comments. When I listen to a podcast that is particularly interesting, I post their locations on the right under “Recent Podcasts”. The second purpose it to cut down on emails. Everyone I know is suffering from email overload. If I have something that might be of interest, I can post what would otherwise be sent as an email. People can read the posting when they have time. It does not get buried in the mailbox. The blog can also serve as something people can leave comments on. Someone wants to leave a comment on IdM and/or include some links, they can post it.

Rather than have people sign on to the system where I originally setup the WordPress server, I set up a site on one of my Go Daddy domains. I had been only using the domain as a mail address. Moving the data over was rather easy, once I found instructions.

Maria Langer posted very good instructions, “Backing Up a WordPress Blog Database.” Maria Langer, author of “WordPress 2“, posted excellent instructions on moving WordPress over to Go Daddy in the posting, “Moving a WordPress Blog to GoDaddy Hosting Account.” Maria site is a good reference site on all matter involving WordPress. Another good source is the WordPress Community Podcast.

Since we are just beginning to setup collaboration tools, we will first focus on getting new tools installed. These items, therefor, must fall into the “around to it” category.

Look further into possibly moving to WordPress MU. MordPress MU is a multi-user version designed to all thousands of blogs.

Look at bbPress for use with forums or bulletin board software for GLORIAD. It adds web standards, ease of use, ease of integration, and speed. Plus, it will get rid of really old software. From a security point of view, GLORIAD needs a major cleaning and upgrade.

I was listening to the WordPress podcast and heard about WordPress MU. I want to come back to WordPress and get WodPress MU installed instead. Why? I like having WordPress as an area of putting out ideas and thoughts. In my mind, Wikis (Socialtext or MediaWiki) of more for established documents and FAQs, while task requests and tracking occur with RT.

Think of WordPress MU as an area where maybe at some point GLORIAD could offer a place for international folks to post. It might be a management nightmare, since who knows what might get posted? We definately do not want to be the International MySpace. So we keep it technical, or maybe we allow only certain people to post. Just imagine the fascinating people who use GLORIAD. To have them post a few of their thoughts on whatever IT area they wanted to talk about, would be fascinating. Even if they were to post on life in different areas, it would allow members of GLORIAD to gain insight into different points of views. This would be similar to listening to the podcast with Jack Ma. Probably not what GLORIAD is about, so maybe we would have to keep it technical and scientific, so we stay on mission. Either way, it would give a voice to the people GLORIAD connects.
